Michael Berger—kinetic rings and objects

Michael Berger like a magician in jewellery design field, his work was so fantastic that shocks everyone. He created his own design style which he called forth dimension—movement. Each piece of kinetic rings can rotate, be turned or can swing, and he is inspired by the kinetic energy of the body. His work was playing a trick to audiences, no one else can imagine that jewellery can rotate like that. Traditionally, the jewellery should be quiet and still, but Michael Berger just break the boundary of the jewellery, make it maintain the dynamic balance in the space. More importantly, he shows all audiences a great visual art performance.

Claudia Steiner—–Frame

Claudia Steiner is a contemporary jewellery designer who was born and studied in Vienna. I have seen a lot of her works recently, and I’m really inspired by her Frame series of jewellery. She use simple metal lines to form a dynamic beauty in the space, and she thought that a fusion of opposites and contrasts where the material surface in particular plays an important role. As you can see from her works, she got a lot of inspired by architecture and nature, make contrast through these two opposite elements.

Material Test. Silicone.

Use silicone sealant to make silicone mould. I bought these on eBay, and test it yesterday.

Firstly, mix the hand soap and the water for a while. Secondly, pour the silicone sealant into the water and soap, use hand to shape the silicone. Finally, cut some of it to make the mould.

This is the easiest way to make silicone mould, but i think it is difficult to make the mould accurate.

Also, i can use these to make jewellery, it touch really soft and smoothy. It can be shaped by hand, it is a great material.

Material test. Science putty

I bought two kinds of science putty on the eBay. This is the material have the liquid and solid characteristic at the same time. It touched like rubber, can be shaped into model. And it also like liquid, can flow down to the surface after a while.

I put these two on the shelf, you can see it flow down to the ground without break, just like the liquid.

I think that i can use these material to make jewellery to demonstrate the movement of the object. For example, i will make a metal big mouth to bite these science putty, and putty will flow down like the sauce flew down when you bit the food.

Inspiration and Idea.1 (Finished Models)

These are my finished models of high calorie food necklaces sketches. These models could only live in the pictures, because they are not reservable. The burger and fries taste great, but i know i can not eat this everyday. I understand the fat guys’ feeling about these lovely food, but the fact is that these food are not healthy. If people want to live longer and healthier, they would have to keep away from it.

Inspiration and Idea 1.(Sketches)

These sketches was inspired by High Calorie food. The research (Research Link) showed that one of the most common reasons which caused obesity among teenagers was they ate too many junk food and lack of nutrition. For example, junk meal would generate about 1500 kcal per meal, and each chocolate bar generate about 100 kcal. The people who eat unhealthy food like burgers, french fries and fired chicken everyday would intake 4500 kcal at least. As a matter of fact that each adult male could only consume about 2000 kcal per day. More kcal people incomed, more fat they got. In my point of view, I thought that it is vital to raise the awareness of junk food.

Decorative metal surfaces.(Roll texturing, stamping, chemical oxidation, gold leafing, keum boo)

Maria touch us the decoration skills today.

Because of the language trouble, I can not transfer these skills into words. There are too many chemical reagents that I can not recognize. For example, like PVA or black polish. Some of these reagents I have never met before, and some of them that I used several times but I did not know its English name. In addition, Maria introduced us how to use gold leaf and gold foil to transfer it into the surface of the fine silver.

Even I don’t know how to describe the decoration process, but I have completely understand the skills. In case of forgetting, I recorded it use my phone camera.

Minimalism Jewellery——perfect imperfection.

I collected these jewellery from Wechat public website. Those jewellery have strong minimalism style. The Artists use simple elements create a fantastic beauty, for example, straight line or circle. Each width and thickness needed to be considered amounts of times, every break and joint is the one hundred percent perfect imperfection. As i write in the blog before, less is more, and easy is hard.
